This is a borough that sits on higher, hillier ground than the Chester Pike flats, and its damage profile follows the roads that cross it. Baltimore Pike and Lansdowne Avenue carry a great deal of traffic that is not local, including buses and delivery vehicles, through junctions where everyone is braking and accelerating within a few car lengths of each other. Then there are the crossings. The regional rail line and the trolley that runs down toward Sharon Hill both put a hard, repeated jolt through anything driving over them, and a windshield with an existing chip in it is a pane being asked to flex several times on every trip. A stone strike picked up on the Pike in November has been worked over those crossings a few hundred times by February.
Once the crack has reached the bonded edge there is no repair to discuss, and the job becomes about getting the right pane. Newer cars bring cameras behind the mirror, rain and light sensors, acoustic interlayers and heated wiper parks at the base of the glass, and each of those points at a specific part number. Older ones, of which Lansdowne has plenty, bring a different question: what the pinchweld looks like under the old bead, because corrosion under a windshield that has been in the car for fifteen years has to be dealt with before new urethane goes anywhere near it. Either way you get the honest version before the glass is ordered.
