The industrial road along the river runs loaded trucks past the same points all day, I-95 cuts through the middle at interstate speed, and the bridge traffic funnels through a handful of streets on its way to New Jersey. Add the stadium, the university and the casino, each of which empties a car park all at once, and you have a city where the surface is beaten up and the standing time is long.

Route 291 and the streets feeding the port and the bridge carry loaded trucks all day, and the aggregate, the trench lines and the steel plates left over roadworks all end up throwing stone into windshields. I-95 through the city adds interstate speed to the same problem. After that comes standing time: cars left in shift and event lots, or at the kerb on a block that is quiet after dark, are where side and rear windows go.
